Maddington Education Support Centre (MESC) is on a shared campus with Maddington Primary School. Children diagnosed with an intellectual or intellectual/ physical disability may be able to qualify to enroll at the ESC through "schools Plus" procedures. The ESC has the capacity to provide placements for thirty two students (current enrolment 20 students). All teaching staff are qualified Education Support Teachers with a degree in Special Education. At Maddington ESC we encourage strong working relationships with Maddington Primary School. Together both schools are called Maddington School. Commitment to inclusive practices, ensure staff work collaboratively, to ensure all students will benefit from an all inclusive education. The introduction of the PATHS program (promoting alternative thinking stratergies) incorporates strong social skills. The teaching of core values, with DAVE, (Developing Australian Values Education) include the teaching of care, courtesy, respect and responsibility throughout the school. A whole school approach ensures children are taught starategies for anger management and communication. Both schools share joint P&C and School Council. Regular parent meetings are held with the principle to discuss issues, initiatives and any developments at the ESC. We provide an enriched education to all our students and this is due to the commitment and the positive improvements as demonstrated in our assesments each year. With this commitment to all children, parental support and partnerships we will continue to move forward.
I am very happy to report a great improvement in the behavior of our students. We had only two suspensions all year in 2010. i think this is due to the PATHS and DAVE programs we have in the school, but also families giving full support from home. If we all work together the outcome is nearly always positive. Hopefully this trend will continue well into the future. I hope you enjoy our website.
